The features started off with the Sport Truck division as they ran a great race going green to
checker. It once again looked like rookie, Zach Tucan would take down his first career win, but
he would have to wait another week. Tucan managed to wrestle the lead from both Andrew
Jeffrey and Mike Ronhock during the early stages of the race. But it was Adam Murphy who
would stake claim to the led in the closing laps with a hard charging Mike Cavallaro right behind
him. In what looked like a case of Murphy too worried of Cavallaro overdrove turns 1 and 2
enabling Cavallaro to sneak by and take down yet another win in the Sport Truck division.
Murphy would settle for second with Tucan third, Jeffrey fourth, and Hugh Bowser fifth.
The USAC midgets would be up next for their 25 lap affair. A relatively small field of 12 cars
would be in attendance with only 11 taking the green. It would be Jesse State leading all 25 laps
as he took full advantage of his pole position to take down what would be his first career win in
the division Seekonk was back in action again this past Saturday night with a special 50 lap
feature for the pro stocks and a visit from the USAC Ford Focus midgets.. Steve Intravaia would
manage to take down second with a late race pass on Jon Seaman. Seaman would hold on for
third, Jeff Abold fourth, and PJ Stergios would round out the top 5.
The Streeters would bring their full field of 26 racers to the green with Bobby Bettancourt
leading the early laps. After a couple early cautions, Paul Lallier would get by Bettancourt for the
lead and hold off all charges including a couple late race restarts to take down the win.
Unfortunately Lallier would later be Dq’ed (not sure for what) handing the win to Mike Mitchell,
who is having a great year and leads the points. Sparky Arsenault would wind up second, with
last week’s winner Jim Silvia in third. Mike Lema and Steve Axon would also be credited with top
5 finishes.
The Late Models would be up next for their 25 lap presentation, with 2 cars short for the
feature as Matt Breault would have rear end issues and Rob Andreozzi would take a vicious head
on hit into the backstretch wall in his heat race. Fortunately he would be ok, but the car looks
like its ready for the scrapyard. Kevin Folan and Kyle Casper would lead the charge to the green
with Kyle leading a bulk of the laps. Point leader Gerry Degasparre would work his way from his
12th starting spot and use the 5 cautions to his advantage to work his way through the field and
eventually grab the lead from Kyle Casper. During Degasparre’s charge to the front, Kyle’s older
brother Kevin would follow Degasparre through the field and to the front as well. A late race
restart would pit the Casper brothers against Degasparre with Degasparre taking the win. Kevin
would claim second with younger brother Kyle settling for third. Robin Berghman and Mike
Becker would finish fourth and fifth respectively.
The Pro Stocks would round out the night with a special 50 lapper and $1,800 going to the
winner. Mike Brightman and Scott Dion would lead the field to the green and would run side by
side for the opening laps. That would last just a couple laps as Tom Scully Jr. would make an
awesome 3-wide move coming out of turn two and blow by both of them on the inside. With a
stretch of long green flag racing Scully and Brightman would be able to open up almost a half
track lead over the rest of the field. A caution on lap 33 would negate that huge lead though.
During that green flag stretch, Freddy Astle would be able to work the outside lane and charge
into the top 5. A couple late race cautions would prevent Scully from opening up that big lead
again, but it wouldn’t matter. Astle would line up to Scully’s outside for the last two restarts but
once again Astle would come up just short. Scully would go on to earn the $1,800 with Astle
second. Dean Pettey, Glen Lawton and Todd Annarummo would go on and round out the top
five.
That’s it for this week, next week the Pro Fours will be in action at Seekonk with a special 30
lap show for the Streeters as well. I’m looking forward to it, as the streeters seem to have the
best races every week hands down.
